Running: My First Half Marathon

I have been pretty intermittent with my blog lately and that mainly has to do with my Half Marathon Training. For the last 12 weeks, the husband and I have been running on a pretty intense schedule with the hopes of it paying off today. (we weren't disappointed) :-)

Today the hubs and I completed our first half marathon---the Miami Beach Halloween Half. The nerves started yesterday when the chance of rain was forecasted at 90%. As I laid in bed last night, listening to torrential downpours outside, I was praying for a run with little to no rain. My prayers were answered and I woke to read the weather forecast was predicting a 40% chance of rain!

It was just the perfect amount motivation that I needed for the morning. We were staying with a friend that lives in Fort Lauderdale, about 30 minutes from the race. We woke around 4:30, had a little breakfast and headed to South Beach. When we got there, we noticed the humidity was out of control.

The race began at 7 and by the time we parked, took a shuttle, used the restroom, and stretched, we had just enough time to line up and get ready for the race. It started at Parrot Jungle and crossed over the causeway onto Miami Beach. Miles 1-3 were great and it was really fun seeing all of the hilarious costumes. We took a planned walk break at 3 for about 30 seconds, our plan was run 3 walk 0.25 but once the effects of the humidity hit, I had an extremely hard time. When it's really humid, it's very easy to dehydrate. We walked and ran off and on for the remainder of the race. Miles 6-8 were my best and I felt like I was getting into a rhythm. The turn around point was at mile 9 and there were only 4 miles left to the finish.

This is where my mind started to get the best of me. Running is almost all mental and I kept doubting my abilities and telling myself what a mistake this was. Thankfully I had my husband there to keep me motivated and distracted. I really need to work on this and try to learn how to clear my head during the run. We crossed the finish line, 13.1 miles later at 2:48. My goal was 2:30 but being I was beginning to doubt my ability to complete it, I am stoked with that time. The race was so physically, mentally, and emotionally involved that I was so overwhelmed at the finish, I just started crying---good tears of course :-)

We all got finisher medals that are a skull that glows in the dark. It's awesome! Here are some pictures from the race.

My best friend not only let us crash with her and met us at the finish line and took all of these great pics with her boyfriend, she also got me this necklace---I love it!

Thanks so much to my hubs---without him I wouldn't have been as disciplined with training as he constantly drags me out of bed at 5:30 to run, even on the weekends. I love and appreciate everything he does for me---thanks babe! I love you!!!

Sorry so long and picture heavy but I wanted to share as much as I can in the hopes to be an inspiration to someone. Have a great rest of the weekend.

Outfit: Sugarland Concert!

Happy Weekend Everyone! I have been blessed with a 3.5 day weekend which started off with a bang. Thursday I worked a half day and then headed to Orlando with my sister and a friend of ours to see Sugarland and Sara Bareilles in concert. The concert was awesome! I have liked Sara Bareilles' music for a while but I never realized how feisty she is. She had a great personality and it made me like her even more.

Sugarland has been one of my favorite country bands for a while and they were as great as I expected. My sister and her friend were both wearing dresses and cowboys boots so I had a little bit of a hard time deciding what to wear since I don't really have "country clothes". I wanted to wear something with a country twist but still had a little bit of "me" in it.

Outfit: A Little Lacey...

Happy Tuesday! It has been raining here for 2 days straight, I'm not even kidding. The weather report has had 100% chance of rain for two days. I cannot image this constantly, it's so depressing. I should have worn flats today as my shoes got flooded multiple times but they seem to be ok and holding up well.

Jeans: Express
Tank: Old Navy
Lace Top: Express
Blazer: White House Black Market
Heels: Jessica Simpson

Fitz insisted on being in the pictures today and when I bent down to say hi, he rolled over for some belly rubbing----so spoiled but I love him!!

I think we have one more day of rain so hopefully I can hang in there. Work is ten times harder when you are fighting the urge to nap. Have a great night guys---

Outfit: Black and Gray--just like the weather...

Today has been gray to say the least but I am not complaining too much because apparently once the rain stops, a cool front will be here! Here in Florida we haven't really seen too much indication that it's really Fall.

Today's outfit is my first maxi skirt outfit. I haven't purchased one in the past because I really couldn't figure out the best way to wear it but I really loved the stripes of this one (imagine that, me and stripes) so I got it and I love it!

Skirt: White House Black Market
Tank: Old Navy
Cardigan: Express
Sandals: Steve Madden

How do you guys style maxi skirts? I think this one would look cute with a jean jacket too. I need to start paying more attention to other bloggers that wear them because I think I just may be hooked!

I hope your Monday rocked!! Later peeps!

Nails: Who Doesn't Love a Little Sparkle!

I finally had time this weekend for my nails! I typically change my polish every Sunday but the last three weeks have been so busy that I hadn't changed the polish or done my nails for a month!

I decided to try something different and fun so this is what I came up with.  I really love the one nail with a little interesting touch.

OPI Road House Blues
Essie Carnival

I think Carnival would be a nice touch to most colors since it really just picks up the tones from the color underneath. It was a little hard to get the true look of it in the pictures, plus I was using my iPhone camera, probably not the best option.

I get emails daily from GoodReads.com that has a quote of the day in it and I really loved this one so I thought I'd share.

"Romance is the glamour which turns the dust of everyday life into a golden haze."

I hope you all have a great week and while I'm wishing good things, I hope my week is sane too.

OMGeeee---Where To Start...

It's official---I'm a bad blogger. Here is a quick update to let you all know I'm alive and what's been going on...normal blogging set to resume next week!

These last few weeks have been totally ridiculous. We have been training for the Half Marathon (only three weeks to go) and we moved!! While we only moved from one unit to the other, the difference is amazing. We spent the whole week before we moved painting. The living room is a greige color with the wall behind the television a terracotta/brick color and the bedroom is a steel gray with slight blue undertones. The majority of the house is still in boxes so pictures to come as soon as we get it decent (this weekend hopefully). The view is amazing and the house feels so much cozier with all of the color on the wall.

Our half marathon is October 29th. It is the Miami Beach Halloween Half Marathon which means of course costumes!! We signed up in the villain category and I have decided to be Catwoman a la Batman Return, Michele Pfeiffer. I am planning to take black tight shorts and a black running tank and make white stitches like she did. I am envisioning her costume just without legs and sleeves. I can't decide for the headpiece if I should make one similar to hers just out of a light fabric or just stick to a store bought headband with ears.

Being the makeup fanatic that I am, I am still determined to don red lipstick and the cat-eye look. I'm thinking the red will be easy with a red lipstain but the eyes have me a little more concerned. Does anyone have any waterproof (extremely) eyeliner favorites? I'm really excited about this and cannot wait. I had a sore knee this week so took the week off from running but I am planning to run nine miles in the morning, we shall see!!

Other recent news:

Had a horrendous week at work and the husband bought me a dozen roses and gourmet cupcakes in addition to decorating the house for Fall and cooking dinner all week.  Love him!

My niece turned one! Here is a recent picture of her. Her party is tomorrow! She's getting so big!

As you can see, busy has been the theme lately. I'm excited to relax this week with a new good read (The Hunger Games), do a little unpacking and organizing, and love on my nieces and nephew!

I hope your week has been great and back to normal operations soon.

xoxo
