Tarte for True Blood

On Friday, I finally made my way to Ulta to use my 20% off coupon. I went inside with the intention of getting a new primer and powder since I am almost out of both, of course that is not the way my Ulta trip transpired. What's new right?

First thing I saw when I went to the makeup section was Tarte's True Blood Collection (by the way I absolutely love True Blood) !! I have been so out of the loop I hadn't really heard anything about this so I was immediately excited and eager to try it out. I have one other palette from Tarte I tried about a year ago and it's one of my favorite palettes and gets used a couple time a week so I was very excited to try the palette for this collection.

The collection comes with a separate cheek stain and lip stain, both in red, and since I have 15 lip products in various reds I decided to pass on that and the cheek stain as well. The eyeshadow palette, which is what I bought, has 17 eyeshadows, a mini mascara and primer and a full size black aqua-gel liner.

Firstly, I have to say I love the packaging. It's very "vampy" and looks like something that would be in the Vampire Bar on the show. There is a wide variety of shadows in the palette ranging from glitter, to shimmer, and even matte. I haven't tried the mascara that came with it but I love the primer and the eyeliner is an aqua gel liner and is awesome. It looks and feels like liquid eyeliner (and has the staying power of liquid too) but is in the ease of a pencil. The product goes on the eye with the touch of a feather so when using, I was careful not to press it very hard. I could see that the product will get used up very quickly though. With my one use, I had used almost the entire tip that was exposed.

The palette also comes suggestions for four looks: Vamp Glam, Luminous Fairy, Vampy Vixen, and Not Your Average Waitress (in this order below). I tried Vampy Vixen on Friday night and it was very pigmented and bright and maybe a little too much for a casual sushi dinner with the hubs and one other couple. I do love the look though and have some pictures below, although the colors don't show super well with the lighting but enough I think.

(Tried to get a picture that showed the colors well and ended up in direct sunlight)

Better pic with eyes open but can't really see the silver

Overall, I have to say I am in love with this palette. It has a great range of colors which I think makes it great to give for a gift or to use while traveling. The eyeshadows that I did swatch are very pigmented and also have Tarte's usual guarantee of cruelty free and contains no parabens or synthetic fragrances. The eye liner is amazing and I plan on checking out Tarte's other eyeliner products and colors soon.

Have any of you tried this palette? I'd love to hear your thoughts. I'll keep you posted of any new looks or comments on this palette. I do recommend so if you love makeup and True Blood, this is for you ;-)

Now let's just hope tonight's episode is exciting!

Don't Step on my Blue Suede Shoes

As most of you know, I love shoes---all kinds really, I don't discriminate. Yesterday I got two pairs in the mail and I wore one of these pairs to work today.

I got an email from Steve Madden on Monday saying their Fall Styles were going on sale at 30% off as a sneak peek. This style, the Radiccal, was the image on the email so naturally I felt the need to click, which led to adding to cart and purchasing. I got free shipping using SMFREESHIP and they were here yesterday. Impressive for standard shipping!

On to the big reveal---

Tank: Banana Republic
Cardigan: Express
Jeans: Express
Heels: Steve Madden Radiccal, buy here

Despite the beauty that is these shoes, I have a complaint. They are painful! I got blisters on my heels and my toes felt a little crunched. They are too gorgeous not to wear so I am going to go to a shoe repair place to get them stretched out a bit in the toe box and maybe see what other options I have. I was a little bummed about
the pain but looking at them again while writing this post makes me fall in love!

Don't forget tonight is Project Runway!! (or that tomorrow is FRIDAY!) Have a great night!

Outfit: Prints for the Hump :-)

Happy Hump Day! I have to say that my day has shaped up to be pretty exciting. What you ask could be so exciting?? Well as most of you know, I am a shoe fan, as in I love shoes. Well I got two pairs delivered today!

I am going to post the shoes tomorrow but know that they are exciting and I cannot wait to wear them and show you guys.

On a somewhat related note, I have been thinking of doing a collective post of all of my shoes, I think it would be fun! It is going to have to be a weekend project since it involves the total deconstruction of my closet but fun nonetheless.

Today's outfit was purchased recently from Banana when I received an email for 40% off. I have to be honest, I have not been impressed with BR lately. This outfit and the dress from Monday are the first things I have bought from there in months, and I LOVE BR. Hopefully they have their groove back.

Top: Banana Republic, buy here
Pants: Banana Republic, buy here
Pumps: Jessica Simpson

I'm off to grab some dinner with the hubs and then I plan on wearing my new shoes around the house, like I always do lol. (Yes for those of you that are new, I am this big of a dork!)

Oh and FYI, for those of you that aren't aware, Project Runway starts tomorrow! I'm really excited and cannot wait for the whole crew. Anyone else waiting anxiously for this season to begin?

HI!! Can I just say that it's only Tuesday?! Really...only Tuesday. I feel like it should be Thursday, this week is already so long!

In keeping with hubs taking pictures, we headed downtown again today after work for some shooting. We found this great little spot outside an older church building. I love his camera and lens and am so lucky he will humor me and take my picture :-)

Necklace: Banana Republic
Earrings: Express

I hope you are all staying cool---it's pretty hot here and I hear it is even worse elsewhere! (Hence the "glow" in the last picture haha!)

Hope you week isn't dragging like mine :-)

Weekend Recap and Outift on the River

Hey!!! Another weekend is gone and another week is here. I had a really great weekend. My company has implemented summer hours on Fridays so we actually get out of work at one for a few weeks during the summer. My Friday started out with a rainy afternoon on the couch, watching So You Think You Can Dance and listening to the awesome thunderstorm.

Saturday morning the hubs and I ran a 5k race in our downtown area, which sounds all fine and dandy however, the race was over a bridge and back and was much steeper than I expected. I'm from Florida, I'm used to flat ground ;-) My legs are still a little sore but overall I am pleased. The race went well for being on steep ground and hot & humid. Here is a picture of us after the race that was in the newspaper this morning.

The rest of the day Saturday was spent hunting for gym bags for both the hubs and I. We are now working out in the a.m. so we have been needing a bag with serious compartments. I found mine on sale at Lululemon and am thrilled, it's the Lululemon Hot Yoga Hobo. On the site, the bag is $118 but in the store was marked down to $79. It has compartments for everything, before clothes, after clothes, pockets for keys and tunes. I love it. I got it in this navy color.

I also got a nice yoga mat strap and some of their awesome running sock (trust me, they are totally worth it!)

We weren't able to find the hubs a bag on our adventures so we ordered him one from Timbuk2. He wanted a messenger bag and these were the best we could find. We will soon find out when it arrives if it fits the bill.

The rest of my weekend consisted of hanging with the hubs and visiting the family. Oh and I saw Friends with Benefits----loved and highly recommend!

For the outfit today, the hubs and I decided to drive down to the river and get some pictures on the water since the outfit has a somewhat (maybe?!) nautical feel. I love when he takes my pictures, he does a great job!

Dress: Banana Republic
Belt: Target
Cardigan: Ann Taylor Loft
Wedges: Michael Kors, seen here, buy here
Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs, seen here, buy here

I got this dress last week at Banana and the associate said they just got it in but I was unable to find it on the website. They actually had a lot of stripes in the store, I almost didn't know what to look at first! The back of this dress has a long exposed zipper which I love. Banana seemed to be using the exposed zipper on their clothes for this season, a lot of their new clothes had the zippers in various locations.

I'm wishing a pleasant and exciting week for all of you! Happy Monday and I hope your weekend was the best!

Rave: Benefit Radiant Skin Care Line

Now that I am the big 2-9, I thought it wise that I step up my game on the skin care front. After some browsing around Ulta one day during my lunch break, I came across this 6 piece introduction kit to Benefit's new skin care line Radiant.

The kit comes with a facial wash, facial polish, toning lotion, facial emulsion, facial cream, and eye cream. I loved every single product in this kit. Once I finished off the face cream and eye cream, I decided that these would be worth the price tag for an initial investment.

Let me first start off by saying that the quality of each of these is amazing and the smell is wonderful. Every time I put these on before bed my husband makes a sweet comment about the smell. The facial cream makes my skin very soft and smooth and the product just glides right on. I have been using it for about 2 weeks and I haven't had any noticeable increases in break outs and I have normal, not dry, skin. I really love the texture and feel of both the It's Potent Eye Cream and the Total Moisture Facial Cream. The smell, again, is out of this world and overall these are really great products. I haven't really heard much about these and like I said I pretty much just stumbled upon these but I am glad I did. I love them.

Have you guys tried any of the products from this line? Please share your experiences.

Nails and a New Interesting Recipe...

Hey guys! This weekend the husband and I tried a new recipe. I should preface this post with this--It's Complicated is one of my favorite movies. In this movie, Meryl Streep has a bakery and some really good food and since the first time I watched this, I have made chocolate croissants and enjoyed croque moinssiour from a local French restaurant. The only other piece of the puzzle that was missing was trying honey lavendar ice cream.

I'm quite a foodie and www.epicurious.com is one of my favorite sites so naturally that was the first place I looked when searching for a recipe for this ice cream. I was able to find edible lavendar at a local organic grocery store along with the honey and other ingredients.

Making this was really fun as I don't make ice cream all that often and every time I smelled it, I was reminded of my bubble bath (weird right). So here is where you can find the recipe and here are some pictures I snapped during the making.

Ingredients were simple: honey, lavender, eggs, salt, half and half, and heavy cream

Heating the ingredients, that's the lavender flowers floating on top

The mixture thickening after the flowers have been filtered out

My ice cream maker, love it and recommend!

Churning away, here it took about 25 minutes to get to a desired thickness.

Finished product

Now for the results---I took into consideration some of the reviews for this recipe and used a little less honey and lavender than recommended and I used four egg yolks versus 2 whole eggs. The flavors are quite strong with this and the taste is just different. I don't thinks it's a bad recipe and I don't I did something wrong but this recipe is just a little different. If you are one to love unique flavors I would definitely recommend trying this.

For me though, it was just a little too different and kind of tasted quite strong. The consistency of the ice cream was great. Hubs gave the ice cream a seven overall. I thought I would share though because the flavors are really interesting and unique and I can see others loving this recipe. I think what I will try next time is a vanilla ice cream recipe with hints of honey and lavender, I can really see those flavors working well together.

On to the nails---I decided to go back to what I love for this week---PURPLE! I brought out the purple from the Shrek Collection by OPI called Funky Donkey. I love this color, it's very bold and saturated.

What is your nail color for the week??

That's it for me for now. I hope the week is going great for you all and Happy (almost) Wednesday!

Outfit: Casual Night Out and a Nord's Purchase...

Last night the husband and I went out for a casual dinner at a local Italian restaurant. I decided in efforts to get back to blogging, I decided to take a quick picture of my casual outfit.

Jeans and Top: Express
Earrings: H&M
Cuff Bracelet: H&M
Sandals: Steve Madden

I love the graphic tees that have a little sparkle for a quick casual outfit. They are a little special but still give a casual, chic look. These Steve Madden sandals have been a great purchase for me this summer. I have them in Nude Patent Leather and here in Black Glitter. I really love them and highly recommend.

Today the hubs and I decided to have a day of shopping, we haven't had a day of romping around in forever. We started the day at Waterside Shops in Naples to check out the Nordstrom's sale and I learned they have a Lululemon! I am so excited. I didn't want to spend money there since we were planning on some Nordie's purchases and some things for the house but knowing it's there and less than 45 minutes away is so exciting.

Once we got to Nordstroms, we browsed around and ended up at the watches. I told you here how I wanted  the Marc Jacobs Rose Gold Watch. Once I got there, the sale watches in rose gold were quite large and the faces were as large as my wrist is wide. The Marc Jacobs sale watch was $183 and I ended up finding a Marc by Marc Jacobs rose gold watch not included in the sale for $175, and I like it more. The face is white as opposed to rose gold which is a little more appealing for me. The width of the face is much more manageable for my wrist also.

I didn't really shop around for the other things I want from the sale so I will probably be ordering some of the other items online. For now, I'm ecstatic about this watch!

We then headed to Macy's to get new sheets and towels. It was a one day sale at Macy's and we got 600 thread count Egyptian cotton Hotel Collection sheets at about 35-40% off. I'm so excited to sleep on the sheets tonight. New sheets are probably my favorite to sleep on.

How was your Saturday? Anything exciting going on?  I am planning a night of leftover yummy Italian and some Cheesecake Factory Chocolate Coconut Cheesecake that we got today. Love relaxing nights with the hubs.

Nordstroms Anny Sale

It's here again, the Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale and I have picked my favorites for this year. I'm of course not going to be purchasing all of these items but there are some of the things I am eyeing...

I'm might be heading to Nordstroms tomorrow with the hubs. I'd like just to see all of these things in person and look at all of the new items for Fall. I love a lot of the boots in this sale but I can't really justify another boot purchase.

What are some items on your "to buy" lists?? I'd love to know! Happy Friday and Happy Weekend!
