Outfit for an Outing

Tonight we all are going out for a movie and dinner. My husband's mom, grandmother, and sister along with the hubs and myself are going to try a local English pub in their downtown area and then to see Little Fockers. I love those movies and I hope this one is just as good if not better than the previous ones. Anyone seen it yet??

Here is my outfit for the night--

Jeans: Old Navy
Sweater: Ann Taylor
Boots: Steve Madden

Quick question-- these boots are suede and are starting to get a worn spot by the heel and at the top of the foot. Is there any way to fix this or make it look dark again, instead of worn? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions?!

Have a great night guys!!

Short Vacation!

So for those of you that don't follow me on Twitter (firstly, shame on you!) but no seriously, you probably aren't aware that I'm away. I'm out of town visiting the in-laws in Virginia so I might have a short, wee little hiatus on my blog-diggity. No fear--I'll be back soon and I'll try to post some shorter posts from my phone.

On a quick separate note, the Washington-Dullus Airport was packed with fabulous boots everywhere! I seriously have some major boot inspiration for the next pair I buy. Love seeing the fashion savvy!

Be back soon! xoxo Mere

Reflection...Bucket List

This isn't totally my 2010 reflection post just yet but I did look over my bucket list and I have a few things to update/cross off.

I mentioned here about my friend Heather and I running in the Muddy Buddy race so I can definitely cross that off of my list.

Also, I have been running consistently now for about six months and I am glad to say, I am finally down to a weight I am happy at and can finally cross that off of my list. I have never really been unhappy with my weight but being in public accounting, I would gain about 10 lbs every busy season and never really lost it all. I have been at my "pre-public accounting" weight for about two months now and I am hoping to stay that way (except if there is a little human growing inside of course--no plans for that just yet but soon I am hoping) :-)

Lastly, I just barely completed my goal of reading 25 books in one year. This was harder than I thought but getting the iPad in May surely helped. I fly through books with this little device. Here are my 25 books (and with a flight to and from VA, I may have one or two more to add).

  1. House Rules by Jodi Picoult
  2. The Woods by Harlan Coban
  3. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin
  4. True Colors by Kristen Hannah
  5. Something Blue by Emily Giffin
  6. The Opposite of Me by Sarah Pekkenan
  7. The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell
  8. Baby Proof by Emily Giffin
  9. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephanie Meyer
  10. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
  11. Dear John by Nicholas Sparks
  12. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
  13. I Love Everybody (and Other Atrocious Lies) by Laurie Notaro
  14. Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner
  15. The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood
  16. Girl Friday by Jane Green
  17. The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
  18. Still Alice by Lisa Genova
  19. Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks
  20. Love the One You Are With by Emily Giffin
  21. My Name is Memory by Ann Brashears
  22. Heart of the Matter by Emily Giffin
  23. Room by Emma Donoghue
  24. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
  25. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
If you want to see my opinions or ratings on any of the above books, check out my goodreads.com link here. If you like to read, I highly recommend goodreads.com. There are so many great books I have read that I otherwise would not have been introduced to (add me as a friend if you do sign up).

So I think that is all I have to update from my Bucket List for now. This next year the biggest item I am hoping to cross off is "Find a job I love", I'm hoping this new job is the ticket to my career happiness. How is your Bucket List coming along? :-)

Come and Gone...

Today is such a bummer of a day. Christmas is over---completely over. Everyone is back to work and all of the fun exciting festivities are over. (much to my husband's dismay, I am not back to work yet, but most people are if you know what I mean).

Our Christmas was wonderful. We started out Christmas Eve by going to an evening candlelight service with my mom, my brothers and sister, and all of the significant others & children. Here is the whole crew at church and some other pics from the night--
From right to left:
my older brother, my hubs, my younger brother, my mom with the new niece, my sis-in-law with my nephew, me, my older niece, my sister and her bf.

It's really great because we really do all get along and its fun when we are all together. After church, we went to my mom's for dinner and gift exchange. My sister bought my niece the cutest outfit in the world. It's a snow angel outfit with a pink tutu and a pink Santa hat!
my sister and Alaina

me and my sister

I made the croissant and they rose perfectly and baked just like they are supposed to but one thing---I forgot to add the salt to the dough so they were pretty bland :-( At least the chocolate and nutella ones were yummy!

I got some great gifts. My mom knitted me this scarf and hat--it fits perfect and I think it is so cute. She did a great job.

She also indulged in my spoil-ness and got me the Lulu Lemon running hoodie I wanted. I am so excited to run in the cold and try it out. Hard to tell in the pic what it looks like but it fits great.

Christmas day we went to my father in law's and exchanged gifts then Christmas night we hung out with my dad's side of the family. My dad has 2-3 acres of land kind of in the woods so we went out there and had a bonfire and ate chili. It wasn't too cold and the fire made it just right.

Overall my Christmas was great. I got a tripod and remote from the hubs so my outfit pics should be improving immensely. I also got some earrings, other running items, some makeup and some new lounge pants.

I have this pair of pants I bought befor our honeymoon in 2006. I got them at some crazy Aeropostle sale for like $5. I have worn them to death. They fit all saggy and droopy and sadly even have a hole starting to grow in the rear. My hubs has been begging me to stop wearing them (and as someone that loves fashion, I should throw them away). The hubs was so determined for me to stop wearing them, he got me a replacement pair from Victoria's Secret. They fit great and are really soft. I don't know if I am going to throw the first pair away just yet, I may save them for sentimental reasons ;-) Have you ever wore or held on to something that was definitely unflattering just for the sake of having it? I think that's what may happen here.

I think I am just going to hang around today, maybe go visit my mom as she has the day off today. We are leaving Wednesday to head to Virginia to visit my mother-in-law for the New Year's weekend. I'll definitely be needing that hat and scarf then! Have a great week---it is at least a short week for most.

It's Almost HERE!

Well folks,Christmas is literally right around the corner. I am currently making croissants for our family dinner tomorrow. Homemade croissant take over 14 hours to make including all of the rising times but it is well worth it---so delicious!

Yesterday I finally finished all of my Christmas duties. Here is the outfit I wore for the day of errands---nothing overly exciting.

Top: Old Navy
Jeans: Express
Flats: Gap

Last night my sister in law surprised my brother with a night out. This is the first time since the baby has been born they have gone out alone and I got the chance to babysit (YAY!) Alaina was so good and took a bottle with no problems and even fell asleep on my shoulder, which I love!!! The feeling of a little baby sleeping is so sweet and serene. Her big brother and sister were also good for me and were even helpful. Here are my and my littlest niece and nephew--

Lastly, I have to show you all my kick-butt apron--the hubs told me I looked like a dork and begged I take it off---sad! I think I rock the mama Claus apron :-)
Yes I am aware I am a dork! :-)

Merry Christmas Eve (in less than 45 mins)

Mish Mash of Christmas...

This blog post is going to be a mish mash of random happenings over the last few days. Starting off, Sunday the hubs and I hung around the house, ran to CompUSA for a new hard drive, and to my mom's house for Christmas cookies. Every year my hubs pesters my mom for cookies and he takes his "fair share" of cookies (which consisted of three large rectangular ziploc containers). Here is my outfit from Sunday:

Dress: Banana Republic
Jacket: Gap
Shoes: Steve Madden

Yesterday I finally went grocery shopping and in my travels, decided to get some supplies for some Christmas cookies I was going to attempt.

I think I cleaned out the baking isle of Publix lol. Well I first attempted a no-bake smores cookies that started out with 2 cups of peanut butter, 1.5 sticks of butter, and 5 (yes FIVE) cups of powdered sugar. To say the least, there was no where near enough liquid to wet 5 cups of sugar. Those ended in the trash.

My next cookie attempt actually was successful--chocolate cookie sandwiches:

This is the recipe I used from the Food Network. I really like this cookie but the hubs thinks they are too rich.  The marshmallow calms down the chocolatey flavor in my opinion and maybe only being able to eat one is a blessing in disguise.

Lastly, my nails are finally matching the Holiday season. I painted my nails with last year's OPI Dear Santa. It's a very red polish with the tiniest, little glitter flecks. I am really digging this polish, it almost looks like red foil when the light hits it.

We are off to the hub's dads house tonight for dinner to celebrate the father in law's birthday. I have to admit, I'm really digging this no work thing. :-) I caught up on TV, painted my nails, did a little scrapbooking, and all in my yoga pants & hoodie. I'm def taking advantage.

Christmas is right around the corner---I can't believe it! Is all of your shopping done?? Mine is!

Outfit--it's a little warmer...

Our week of freezing temps has ended, for a few days at least. It rained pretty much all day and I thought that would have brought the coolers temps again but it's actually pretty warm. Tonight was about 70* so I took advantage and tried the knee/over the knee socks trend I have been eying lately.

I found these socks at Urban Outfitters and when I took them out of the package, I died laughing---they are so long, longer than my body. We have a few homes in the area that have been donated for public use and during the holidays, they decorate these homes and people are able to take tours. My friend and her boyfriend invited us out to see these houses and to dinner. It was a nice night out with friends and the weather was great too.

Shorts: Express
Sweater: Ann Taylor Loft
Socks: Urban Outfitters
Boots: Steve Madden

Now that I see the pics, this outfit may be a little too matchy matchy---and I didn't really mean it to be. Oh well, live and learn. Maybe next time I'll try a color in the socks or the top, rather than matching them both.

Today my sister & I went to the movies and saw How Do You Know. I have to say that I had high hopes for this movie but I was a little disappointed. It just was too long and a little empty--the movie could have touched on all of the same points and been 45 minutes, I really wanted to love it.

On another note, the hubs and I started watching Dexter this weekend. We are three episodes in on the first season and so far I like it. The premise of the show is definitely interesting---I'm intrigued. Anyone out there Dexter fans?

Happy Saturday!

Outfit for the beginning of a nice, long break!

I want to start off this post by saying thanks for all of your sweet, congratulatory comments. I'm not quite sure if I should mention what company I am working for just yet but it is a national, fashion retailer that most of you have probably shopped at. Right now they have about $2 billion in annual sales.

The position I was hired for is a Senior Accountant doing mostly internal financial reporting. My understanding is I will be providing each brand within the company financial data for them to gauge their progress, compare budgets to actual, forecast, etc. I am really excited about this opportunity. I think I am well suited for the position from what all of the interviewers described.

Now onto the perks that I am looking forward to:
- casual dress code. I went twice for interviews and everyone that interviewed me was wearing jeans. Others I saw, especially in the design department, were wearing anything and everything. I am so so so excited about this. There are so many items of clothing that have been neglected for so long that will finally see daylight (plus all of my stuffy suits will be nicely placed in the back of my closet.)

- This company is striving to be on Forbes Top 100 Places to Work. From talking to various employees, the company distributed a survey asking opinions and is starting to work on the results of those surveys. They recently purchased land next door and there are talks of plans to build a fitness center, a clinic, and a daycare (which now I might have a reason to use one day). Super jazzed about that!

- No travel, no busy season, oh did I say no travel!

So my first day is January 4th and when I gave my two weeks notice yesterday, I was told that today was my last day. The timing couldn't be better. I have the best possible two weeks off, the Holidays! Overall I am really excited and I hope I like this position and job as much as I am anticipating--just really seems like the perfect place for me.

Tonight, we met my sister for sushi for a mini celebratory dinner. Here is my outfit:

Top: H&M (I know this has been here often but I love this top, it's so so comfy)
Jeans: Express
Headband: Banana Republic
Flats: Gap
Lipstick: MAC Lady Gaga

Tomorrow I am planning to hang around the house and clean up, maybe finish some last minute Christmas Shopping. Sunday I am hoping to make some Christmas cookies. I found some recipes online that look really good so hopefully they taste as good as they look. Anyone else have any Christmas plans for the weekend?

This Week I...

This week I...

1. ...inadvertently carried a mini bottle of Disaronno around in my purse, all week (even to # 8 but don't read ahead). :-)  Saturday night we were to a friend's house and I bought some wine for the night at Total Wine and Spirits but I threw this in my purse because I didn't really buy it for that night, I really bought it because I thought it was too cute!

2. ...signed up for the craziest race ever and I hope not only to survive but to actually kick some serious warrior butt!

3. ...was in the office alone and wore fuzzy socks and cranked up the heat all week so I would be comfy.

4. ...was so internally distracted that I stared off into space for at least two to three hours, no talking on the phone, no surfing the internet, simply sitting and staring.

5. ...wrapped all of my Christmas presents and even mailed Christmas cards.

6. ...created a Twitter account and tweeted for the first time ever (look in my sidebar)

7. ...didn't do any work outfit posts because I was less than inspired (see # 3 and 4).

8. ...had a job interview for an account position at a huge, major fashion retailer and I got the JOB!

Stocking Stuffers...

I simply cannot believe that Christmas is next week. I have had a pretty emotionally draining week and hopefully I'll be able to share what for with you all soon. I am about 90% sure it's going to be positive in the end, the unknowns are just exhausting sometimes. I was thinking of perfect stocking stuffers for the beauty/makeup junkie in your life (or you could totally email this link to that special someone that will be filling your stocking). :-)

Here are some things that I would LOVE to find in my stocking...
Urban Decay Mini Primer Potions would be perfect. Even though they are small, if they are anything like the larger ones, they will last a decent amount of time.

Marc Jacobs Lola in rollerball is the perfect size for a stocking. This is my go-to perfume and has been since last Christmas I believe. I really like the scent for day time, sweet and not overpowering.

Laura Mercier Mini Lip Glace Kit. These are just stinking adorable and offers a range of colors.

A cute hair accessory such as these bobby pins from Banana Republic or a fancy headband would be a great addition to any stocking.

I know these seem weird but these are curved bobby pins by Scunci. For anyone that pins bangs back to the side or on top of your head knows that when you use regular bobby pins, you get bug antennas and sometimes it looks silly. These are my fave bobby pins. They curve and lay flat against the head and have no buggy-esque qualities. Love these.

In addition to bobby pins, hair ties such as these are always eluding me. When I cleaned out my bathroom a couple of weeks ago, I found tons of these and my husband would definitely argue that I don't need any of these as he is constantly finding them everywhere but when it comes time for me to need one, they are always missing. I can always use more. I usually by brown to match my hair color. :-)

I have not yet tried the Spin Pins from Goody but I have heard great reviews about them. I think if you have thick hair like mine, you may need two packs but I would love to try these for a cute, easy messy bun.

Essie's Winter Collection in a 4-Pack of Mini's would be perfect for the nail polish lover. These are some great colors and with the mini pack, you get twice the color options for the price. I am slowing increasing my love for Essie. My Smokin' Hot polished lasted like five days, that is unheard of for me. I am usually chipping way sooner than that.

If you need more ideas, Sephora has a whole section of Beauty Mini's which are great for trying new products or for travel size. I recently bought a new face cleaning set from Philosophy in mini to try so I'm not out a large amount of money in case I don't like it. I highly recommend the mini's for stocking stuffers.

Tomorrow is Friday! I am planning to make some Christmas cookies this weekend and to also finish my Christmas shopping. I am almost done, just need to get the hubs some stocking stuffers and some other miscellaneous things--then I will be finished and can sit and enjoy the season. Christmas cards even went out in the mail today. :-)

Last Minute Shopping? Try Overstock...

Every year, there is usually one or two gifts that I wait to get until the last minute (like absolute last minute), this year I seem to be doing a lot better. I only need to pick up miscellaneous stocking stuffers for the hubs and my little brother's gift. This year my husband did all of his shopping online and I am planning to finish mine up at Overstock.com.

I really do love this site you can get anything (really, check it out, anything)! They have some really great necklaces and pendants and for those of you waiting for that ring, you should link your significant other to some of their engagement rings.

I am planning on getting my hubs the Flip Video Camera. He is really into gadgets and he showed interest in this at one time so I think it should be a cool gift in addition to the other things I got for him. Guys are really hard to shop for, especially mine because anything he wants he just buys. Luckily for me, Overstock.com has offered my blog readers 10% off at their site using the code 121728 and free shipping on electronics using 202234.

I hope you all find something good! Let me know what you get, I may need some idea for gifts I may buy myself lol.

All the ideas and opinions expressed are my own. No monetary compensation was received for doing this post, however, I was provided with a discount code.

GNO Outfit @ Melting Pot...

On the first Monday of the month, Melting Pot has a girls' night out special where its girls only and the whole meal for one girl is $29 with $5 drink specials. I have done this a few times and it's really a good time. There are usually raffles and giveaway and each event is sponsored by either a charity or a company.

Last night, my sister and I joined some old and new friends for a night out. It's great to get away, especially to the Melting Pot, but getting home at eleven after an exhausting day makes for one tired me.

Here is what I wore...

Sweater: Express
Tank: Banana Republic
Jeans: Express Skinny

Heels: Betsey Johnson

I got this little guy while Christmas Shopping on Saturday. We have a store here called Charming Charlie's and it's a huge fashion/costume jewelry store (the clerk actually told us upon walking through the door that there is over 10,000 sq ft of shopping area--random factoid I guess). But I am totally in love with this ring despite the fact that my hubs called it tacky lol. He has no clue :-)

It's freezing here so I am assuming it's cold everywhere. Stay warm friends!!!
