Week Update...

This week has been pretty crazy. On Tuesday I was surfing the internet looking for running advice and any upcoming races in the area and I found out there was a race today for a 5K so I signed up. I have never done a race so I was pretty excited. I was out sick on Thursday due to a stomach bug so I was nervous about running today. Also I have stopped running outside for the last couple months because our humidity is out of control and the heat index is over 100* everyday. That being said, the race today was harder that I expected. It wasn't sunny as it was raining in some nearby areas but the heat and humidity were out of control. My goal for the run was simply to finish it and I did with a time of 37:04. I am happy with that but of course once I continue training, I'd like to get a little better time.
(nice and sweaty pic for you)

I ran the whole first mile, half of the second, and probably only the last quarter of the third mile. I was surprised at how much harder it was outside but I'm excited I did it and even more excited for the next now that I know what to expect.

On Wednesday I went to the eye doctor for an annual check up to make sure my prescription hasn't worsened and to maybe see if I could get contacts. I have been wearing glasses for about six years and have been too intimidated to try contacts. While I don't have any problems touching my eye, I was afraid how they would feel and if they got stuck up in my eyelids. Good news was that my prescription is the same and I got contacts. I love them. It is so nice to not wear the glasses, especially watching television. My only dilemma is that I have DKNY sunglasses I love with prescription lenses so I have to get some sunglasses that have normal lenses. I have been wearing some old Coach glasses but the lenses are so light and they are just not that good anymore---too worn.

I am planning a pretty lazy Saturday--heading over to my mom's in a bit to finish my craft project then dinner with a old friend I haven't seen in three and a half years. We were best friends before I moved and she was in my wedding. When I moved to Miami, we just drifted apart. I am super excited to reconnect and catch up on what's been happening in her life.

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend. I'll be back soon with outfits and more exciting posts---promise.

Dog Days of Summer...

I would like to start this off by saying that it is so unbelievably hot here. I know I live in Florida but this weather, this summer, we have had record highs and heat indices around 105*! Seriously! It's so ridiculous. The last thing I want to do it put on work clothes and head off to work. I would much rather slip on my bathing suit and float in the pool all day. Or simply stay inside watching tv would do, I'm not picky. With that being said, as I was leaving this morning I notice Fitzgerald up on top of the laundry pile (don't judge, we hate folding clothes and are grateful we have a guest bed to hold the clean clothes until we get around to it). He had already been pulled from the bed. I don't know about other dogs, but Fitz stays in bed until the husband brings the leash to the bed, puts the leash on a drowsy sleeping dog (looking something like this...)
and literally drags him to the elevator. Then after the walk, he is up for about 10 minutes before moving to the guest bed to go back to bed. Even when I am walking out the door, saying my goodbyes, all I get is an eyeroll. More likely than not for disturbing him---not because I am actually leaving him alone for the day. Then I was thinking---what life dogs have. He doesn't do anything to contribute to the household---no picking up of his toys and rawhides that he insists on dragging to the ends of the earth every day, nothing--but yet he sleeps whenever he wants and eat like a king. And because he is so demanding---he gets attention whenever he can squeeze his bum into the space between my husband and I. Oh the life----I hope I come back as a dog in my second life--especially mine!

With that being said, here is the lightest outfit I could muster to brave the heat today...

Skirt: Express, seen here and here
Tank: Old Navy
Cardigan: Ann Taylor Loft
Shoes: JS by Jessica Simpson, seen here and here
Makeep: Eyes are a gold and copper look with Coral lipstick

In other news I am off to an eye exam after work to see if my eye have worsened and to try for contacts. I am nervous to try them but I am tired of not being able to see all of the time. We will see how it goes. Hopefully my eyes haven't worsened so I don't have to get new lenses also. Happy Hump Everyone!

Do you ever stop and look around to realize that you are one of the luckiest people in the world? I had an ah-ha moment like such yesterday. Overall, Sunday was pretty uneventful and consisted of breakfast, gym, and scrapbooking. Hubs decided around four o'clock that we should make a “fancy” meal for dinner and volunteered to go to the store since I was knee deep in paper and glue. We made Chicken Saltimbocca and Risotto (both excellent and both from Giada). This is probably the best meal we make, my favorite for sure. Hubs was in charge of the Chicken, me the Risotto. We also had Caesar Salad. While we cooked, we each had a drink in hand, listening to music and dancing in the kitchen. Fitz even got in on the action and started jumping around. Cooking was actually more fun than eating.
After we cooked, we sat on the balcony to enjoy the feast. It was a cloudy night so it wasn’t scorching hot. Since the sky was pretty cloudy, the sunset created a pink glow over the clouds that cause the most amazing colored sunset--another reason to love living on the west coast (of Florida). As we were finished eating, I was staring off the balcony and I actually started to cry. I have an amazing husband that will not only go to the grocery store for food but will cook part of the meal and have fun while doing it. I live in an amazing place and I have the best Boston Terrier ever (sorry if you have one too, but he is!) I have awesome family and friends that support me in all I do. Sometimes it just hits me, how much I have. It’s the small things that matter----not your job or how much money is in the bank. Lucky! That is the word of the day!

Here are some pics of just a few of the special people in my life...

Chop Chop and Nordies Haul!

First things, first----I finally got my hair cut this morning. As I mentioned here, I hate getting my hair cut because I have so much of it and I kind of feel bad. A friend of mine from high school is a hair dresser in town and I went there in January and liked how she did so I went again. My hair was really long and I knew I wanted it a little shorter than I normally get but yikes! It's pretty short for me. I really don't mind it though since my hair grows like a weed but I think I always overshoot on how short I want it. Overall,  I love the cut and it will be nice to wear a normal ponytail while working out rather than piling all of my hair on top of my head. For those of you that forgot, here is how long it was before...
And here it is right after...

So you'll have to let me know what you think. I am of course not used to it yet but like I said, I am not one of those people that is emotionally attached to my hair---I think mostly because it grows so fast---so either way, come Fall, it will be long again.

On to my wonderful Nordstrom package that was delivered yesterday. I got my stuff from the Anniversary Sale and I love everything. That hardly ever happens. Here is my haul...

First up we have the Hinge Crop Tweed Jacket. I love this. I think I can definitely wear this out as a way to dress up jeans or with a pencil skirt for work. Love everything about this from the fit to the fabric. Love!

This jacket is way out of my comfort zone but I can't help but love it too. It's collar is a stiffer material and the ruffles are so full. The is the Hinge Victoriana Ruffle Coat --- unfortunately it's out of stock now. At first I didn't think this would be super versatile but I know I could wear it to work and Nords style the model with leggings and a tunic T underneath.

I think both way are great!

I'm definitely a sucker for an embellished T and this one from Caslon did not disappoint. Love!

Some other things I got...

Watch for hubs---he likes it. I wanted to wait until a holiday to give it to him but if he didn't like it, the return date would have already passed so he got it now.

Of course I could have purchased way more but I didn't want to break the bank and I really love everything I got. I had a great day today hanging out with my mom and visiting my Grandfather. We also did some crafting but it started raining so I couldn't finish spray painting but maybe I'll be able to share soon. I hope your Sunday is great and goes by so so   s l o w. . . that way Monday doesn't come as quick.

Thanks for stopping by...

It's Friday and a little project...

Yay! It's Friday and even though Tropical Storm Bonnie is going to be ripping through here any minute, I don't care! It's Friday. I think today and tomorrow are suppose to be very rainy so I am planning a little low key weekend. I ordered about 500 pictures from Snapfish so I could scrapbook some. Or I could begin another sewing project. I have been reluctant to stay indoors lately on the weekend so my creative/crafty side has taken a back seat. I will, of course, keep you updated on my exciting weekend. ;-)

I have seen many videos on YouTube on how to de-pot eye shadows in order for them to fit into a MAC Palette. I decided I wanted to try this. While I do not have hardly any MAC shadows, I do have some Smashbox, LORAC, and Urban Decay that all have the same pan sizes.

I ordered the MAC Palette and round magnets on eBay and they arrived yesterday so I jumped right in, curious to see if I could get it to work. Well good news----it worked!! I have about three more Smashbox shadows to do and then my palette will be almost done and still have room for growth.

I needed:
the eye shadows
the palette
a paring knife
tongs (I eventually switched to husbands tools as I was melting them)
lighter (or flatiron but I prefer the lighter)

There are tons of videos on YouTube to watch so I am just giving quick instructions...
Pop the outer case from the inside case holding the pan.
Take a lighter to the bottom to loosen the glue. Try not to inhale the plastic fumes. Once the glue is loose, the pan will pop right out, just take the tip of the paring knife and pry it out.
Add a small magnet to the bottom of the pan (not shown), mine had adhesive but most of the pans were tacky once the glue heated up and would easily hold a magnet. Lightly heat up the label from the bottom of the outer case and use the paring knife to pull the sticker off and place it over the magnet.
All of the stickers worked great except LORAC, their stickers were bigger than the pans so I had to push them into the palette hoping the sticker would curl around the edges of the pan.
Ta-da----all done. I love it! (I placed the extra magnets in the spots so I wouldn't lose them)

This was easy and I love little projects so it was a little fun for me too. Hope you all have an amazing day!! Love you guys!! Thanks for reading!

Random Musing for a Tuesday Night...

So I have been in a little bit of a funk lately with my clothes and blog but I guess like anything else, we have off days. That being said, I thought this post could be all of my random thoughts and updates from lately...

Starting with my outfit of the day. I got the Florale flat from Steve Madden at 40% off of the sale price and my first initial thought was "Holy Cannoli---these things are painul!" After wearing them all day today, they broke in so well---not one blister. I was so surprised. I was even prepared with my Band-aid Blister Block and Band-aids and I didn't need either. Needless to say---I was pumped!

Tank: Banana Republic
Cardigan: Ann Taylor Loft, seen here
Skirt: Banana Republic
Flats: Steve Madden
Polish: OPI Shrek Collection Funky Dunkey (love this too!)

Speaking of Steve Madden, I got an email today for Glitter Shoes. (Wait, I must preface this by saying I love anything glittered, sequined, sparkley--I just have the personal boundaries to know that I can't always wear these kind of items). Ok back to the email---these platforms are so perfectly tacky--and I shamefully admit I love them. I wish they weren't so tall---they would be perfect for New Years but I think I'd be Green Giant with these on. I will keep these in my mind in case I need something for a drag queen costume though!

:::sigh::: I want them so bad!
(these also come in gold and black which are totally fab also)

Oh I almost forgot to tell you---I signed up for the Muddy Buddy. For those of you who are not familiar, the Muddy Buddy is a team running/biking race with obstacles and the final obstacle being for you and your buddy (team member) swimming through chest deep puddle of mud together. I know---from glitter platforms to mud but I am so weirdly excited. My bestie Heather and I are signed up as of today.

We had to come up with a team name and for a while we couldn't think of anything then we got it---the Green Beans. Wait wait---before you make fun---we are both accountants (bean counters) and both environmentally conscious (green!), I love it. I cracked up when Heather came up with it. We of course will make some awesome tanks to wear during the race. In reading about the race, we saw that people wear costumes and dress crazy so it can be fun! I can't wait---it's in November so I am sure you will be getting updated with my training progress. The only bike I have been on in year is a spinning bike (read no need to balance) so hopefully I pick it up again quickly.

Ok...let's see what else. Oh I am totally in LOVE with this song by B.O.B. - Airplanes. I love the tune, the sounds, and the lyrics are so good. Love it!

Well I am off to finish watching Hell's Kitchen. Tomorrow is the hump---can I get a woo-hoo!!

Loving: Badgley Mischka

Can I just say that I am deeply and truly in LOVE Badgley Mischka's Shoes! Every so often I find myself logging on to Piperlime just to see what new beauties they have made for me to lust after. A lot of their shoes are satin which to me are more dressy and I can't justify spending so much for shoes I really would hardly wear but OMG they are gorgeous. Every single one! I love how flirty and ruffley and yummy these are all. I just had to share!
And drum roll please for my favorite most favorite pair...

{all images from Piperlime}
(I think these may be placed on my 'Oh please husband please consider buying me these shoes. I will wear them all of the time! PROMISE!' list)

Has anyone purchased Bagley Mischka's?? What do you guys think of these?

Ok--lusting completed for the time being...
