Turquoise Polish---fail!?

In an attempt to purchase a spring-y polish, I decided to choose a turquoise blue color. I hate to say but I am not a fan. Friday night the husband and I went to Coconut Point (LOVE) for a Sephora and Target quick shopping trip and then on to Hemingway's for yummy dinner (you should try this place--delish!). This color grabbed my attention and since its a little different, I though why not. The color is Sephora by OPI in Ocean Love Potion. I think it's not attractive for me, at least on the mani. Maybe this would work better only on the pedi---I did both.

What do you think? Is this a polish that should stay away? I just can't fully decide. Maybe only a pedi?!  Let me know what you think. I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday! xo Mere

I have to say that seeing all of these braids on the latest and greatest brings me so much joy. A little piece of me goes back to my youth when my mother insisted I wear a braid to school most days---which of course I fought because that's me and I am stubborn. (Love you mom!) The braid has been seen everywhere from the Red Carpet to the girl next door and I think this look is so versatile. I love it!!

My fave way to wear it is a side braid (a la Jennifer Anistan in Love Happens--which is an adorable movie!) as my bangs are quite grown out and I haven't committed to cutting them again. This look can be done as a straight braid, like mine here, or a french braid wore more like a head band, which Lauren Conrad sported quite often on The Hills.

I also love the side braid like Audrina is wearing here. I think this look will be perfect for spring.

Here are some other perfect ways to sport the braid this year to add something new and interesting to your hair.

What do you guys think of the braids? How are you planning to sport the braids this year, if at all?

GNO Outfit...

Saturday night was a girls' night out and my first night out in a while. After much tactical planning, some good friends of the birthday girl came over from  the other coast to surprise her and join us for a little GNO fun! Here is my outfit for the night...we were running late so the makeup/hair was a little thrown together. We were shopping in Anthro and totally lost track of time and had to change the reservation and hurry!

Top: Ann Taylor Loft Tiered Top
Belt: Anthropologie
Jeans: Barely Boot from Express
Shoes: Old Navy Wedges
Ring: Banana Republic Cocktail ring seen here

I didn't get a lot of great pics but we get the point, right?! ;-)

I hope everyone had a great weekend---enjoy the rest of the week and pray it goes quick!!

A mini haul...

In the last 2 weeks or so, I have found some really great deals for clothes both for casual and for work---and of course some new polish!! Here is a mini haul post...

And first up we have...
Benefit Blush in Coralista
I have been looking for a brighter blush and this is a really pretty pink/coral color. I wore it last night and the results--2 thumbs up!

Our weather has been in the upper 70's yesterday and today and in the spirit of spring, I purchased this orange/coral color from OPI's Hong Kong Collection - Hot & Spicy. I also picked up Essie's Chinchilly.

Applique shirt from Ann Taylor Loft
Top from Anthropologie

Belt Anthropologie
Wedges Old Navy (and only $20 might I add) Polish on the toes is OPI Ink.
I saw these on Saltwater Dreams blog and fell in love!
Earring Anthropologie

And there you have it folks. I really love the shoes. They are unbelievably comfortable. I wore them last night for 5-6 hours and not one pain. Love them!

Spring is officially here. My husband always refers to March as "in like a lion and out like a lamb". I'm sure he is referring to the weather but I was thinking that this also relates to my life. By the end of March, we stop working totally insane hours, most of the reports have been issued, and we get our Saturdays back. I'm ready for the lamb! I have so many ideas and plans swirling around my noggin for these upcoming weeks. In addition to the basics like spring cleaning and clothes to the dry cleaner and tailor, I cannot wait to begin all of my sewing projects and scrapbooking the events of the past year or so that I am so behind on---and getting my tan back! I was sad to realize in some of these pictures, I am matching my ivory top. I hope the beginning of spring is bringing good weather your way. Happy Sunday!

Makeup Tutorial--Pink Lips and Stila Kitten!

PINK Lips!
Tarina Tarentino @ Sephora has a great lip
Maggie Gyllenhall rocks the pink lips at the Oscars.
Rhianna's lips are perfection...
Alexis Bledel's lips and eyes pop with this look.
My inspiration is the Smashbox line from Heartbreaker

I know, I know...I have already raved about the pink lips trend but I thought I would do a tutorial of how I love to wear this look. I think it looks best with a muted face and eye to make the lips pop. This look will also tie in my raves about Stila Kitten. Here we go...

(looking quite sleepy this Sunday morning)
I have already done my moisturizer, foundation, concealer, primer, and powder.

Moisture: Aveeno Positively Ageless with SPF
Foundation: Maybelline Dream Liquid
Primer: Benefit Stay Don't Stray Primer
Concealer: Benefit Boi-ing
Powder: Benefit Hello Flawless in Petal
(note when doing powder, make sure to not powder you eyelids as the eyeshadow won't stick as well to the primer)

I'm starting with Stila Smudge Pot in Kitten. If doing this, you probably don't need the primer but I like the primer for the under eye so I did both. Spread the kitten base all over the lid, trying not to extend too far over the crease.

For definition I applied a light brown eyeshadow into the outer "v" of the eyes. I used Jemma Kidd from Target in Vanity Fair. This step can prob be skipped but I like some definition, even if not substantial. I bought this shadow to do the shadow on our faces for Zombiecon, seen here, and I really ended up liking it.

Using a small shadow brush, apply Stila Kitten to the lid.
(its the one that is almost gone)
(I kept going from indoor to outside to get the natural light since it is kind of hard to see)

Apply a highlight under the brow. Try to stay away from shimmer shadows as your entire lid is shimmery.

Using your fave black liner, mine is UD 24/7 in Zero, line your upper lids. Try to make the liner wider as you reach the outer corner. With the black liner, apply on the lower outer lash line and smudge inward.

Add mascara, mine is DiorShow Blackout and the eyes are complete.

I think this look can go either nude or pink so I thought I'd show both. This is the look with a nude lip. Here I am wearing Sephora brand lipstick in a nude shade, I think is Impertinent Nude 24. Lipstick is topped off with MAC Cruise Control Lipglass.

...and for the finale. Using Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick in Flirty and Heartbreaker Lip Shine in Berry Hot --here is my pink lips.

And the final look...

I am off to my nephew's pirate birthday party. I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. xoxo
